The expanded version of the book, entitled “Holy light: The roots of doubt".
In the present study, the most popular Greek enlightener, Adamantios Korais, deals with the miracle of the "holy light" of Jerusalem. Writing his work in 1826, he defines with theological criteria the meaning of the miracle, documents in an admirable way the foggy history of the appearance of the "holy light", highlighting, at the same time, the various political, religious and anthropological aspects of the issue.
Our country needs nowadays, possibly more than ever, the coming of a new Enlightenment. Perhaps because the social and political conditions of the 19th century did not favor the establishment of whatever ideas were expressed at that time regarding the attempt to restore the Ortho Logos to the modern Greek temperament. Therefore, the restoration of radical positions and opinions of representatives of the New Greek Enlightenment in the Public Sphere could act as the appropriate detonator for this purpose. All this, in an environment where the exploitation of the ignorance and psycho-emotional fixation of the godly is intensified by "professionals" who come from both the field of religion and politics.
According to Korai, the holy light is a reading that is addressed to almost every one of our compatriots. Whether it is those readers who complain about state religiosity and the influence of the dominant religion on worldly matters, or people closer to religious faith, who do not, however, accept that their worldview is dishonored by being treated as naive .
