This book is the biography of Nikolaos Andreas Dandolos or better known as "Nick the Greek", who was the biggest and most famous gambler of his time in America. He was born in Crete and grew up in Smyrna where he studied in the best schools. Before his twenties he will settle permanently in the USA. Due to his charismatic personality he will be led to an explosive and unique lifestyle, in which his love of gambling, philosophy and the beautiful card is expressed in an unusual and unconventional way.
"The greatest pleasure in my life is to play and win. The next greatest pleasure is playing and losing. So, is it ever possible for me to be nervous or sad? What matters is playing."
Nick de Gryck found these rapid reversals of his position highly empowering and any opposition to them unwarranted. "Evolution and dissolution is the law of the universe," he used to say. “The stars and their satellites, the people and their parcels… All these come and go. The law is good, it renews things, it makes everything new. You know, though, I've seen people kill themselves after the very first case. Imagine! What reactions before the law of the universe... As if they set fire against every small change".
