There is no civilization on this planet that has not in some way paid homage to the Sun. In his power man read the absolute. As he is one, who, without asking for anything, spreads light, so also the Principle of Things - which in religious language we call God - brings the whole world into existence. Just as he, with his gravity, brings the whole of our stellar neighborhood into dance, similarly the Divine animates creation as it is the universal point of reference.
The mysteries of the Sun did not leave the father of Greek Folklore Nikolaos Politis (1852-1921) unmoved. In this book, this great thinker presents and interprets the most important beliefs, stories, worship practices of the Sun in Greece and in neighboring cultures.
The book is prefaced by the well-known scholar of the work and life of N. Politis, Mr. Dimitris T. Katsaris.
