EAM and Civil War

EAM was a whole generation, a sea

The EAM it was and is intertwined with the liberation struggle of the Greeks against the German fascists and their local collaborators. That is, the guerilla, which flared up in the mountains of Greece with the armed ELAS from 42 onwards, with its first captain Ari Velouchiotis. The EAM it was not a simple organization. It also had political coverage from the KKE, of course, but its members in its first phase until the liberation from the Germans were perhaps hundreds of thousands, and in the mountains and the cities where its youth - the historical EPON - was stirring up and awakening the world.

Heroism in the Resistance they had no end. Tortured people, condemned as if by their oppressors, raised their stature to the conqueror! Some managed to escape, others were badly tortured, and many died.

But they wrote with their blood and their souls the epic of the Resistance. The extent of the organizations and their enlisted members was such that it allows us to speak of an entire generation.. A sea of people in the wake of the Resistance, an entire era.

This EAM generation whose borders will not be easily found, this was taken from December 44 to civil war of '46, but also after civil war. Where hounding, social control and exclusion, and the economic withering of those left in its wake EAM of that glorious era, was the goal of the modern Greek state...

As a result, the world was divided both politically and ideologically. Those who remained ideologically on his agenda EAM they were tortured by the state and its mechanisms, which since '49 (the end of the Civil War) were completely controlled by American policy on the Balkans and the world.

And thus, one might say, that huge revolutionary wave of his generation will be ignominiously extinguished EAM, to leave his stern mark with the Junta of the colonels in 1967. He still inspires, still fights in illegality, for Democracy this time, Independence and a free society.

In the following years and under the dim light of the cold war, his action will be silenced at all levels (Social - Ideological - Educational) EAM, and his assistance in any progressive development of the Greeks, and in terms of the acquired rights of man in society, school and workplace. The EAM however, no matter how much they tried to eradicate it with 'fire and anvil' from the Greek reality, they will inflame it in the consciences of the insurgents. It is intertwined with rebellion and Progress. And it will inspire the next generations of revolutions in Greece and Europe and elsewhere.

Ο Christos Filippou, author of the book "And their souls kept waving" he started his first searches and experiments with writing in 2003. Along with journalism, he devoted most of his time to free writing short stories. Sometimes he creates his own myths. Sometimes he is confronted with true legends, people who marked the history of the place with their lives. However, this collection of short stories is his first book. His material dates from 2011. In 2010 he traveled to Cyprus, where he lived in Nicosia for two years. He traveled to the occupied territories of Cyprus, recording in short stories his experience, which will influence him greatly. In 2013 he returned to Athens. Since then, he starts sending responses and publishing interviews in the Cypriot "Haravgi", the historical newspaper of AKEL.

As for the book, it is developed in three sections with a series of short stories.

The first section is a political "geography" for the Left, as the Greeks knew it. They are narratives true stories from the December stills, Varkiza and Makronisos, death sentences and torture, to the most recent image of a communist. In the second section the images are stormy. These are small narratives that move in the chariot of the author's personal time. They are real stories - they are not biographies - but they are experiential and give reasons to say even more difficult things than a simple experience. The last section concerns Cyprus. The author visits the places of the northern occupied part of the island. It hurts the place in a paradoxical, deep way. The descriptions deepen, are fresh with feeling and vibrate the author's soul. He marks the details in the narrative, finds traces everywhere and tells us about this alone.
