Fotini is a young teacher who lives in Sydney, Australia and undertakes to collect the keys to a house her mother inherited from an aunt and in which she lived for a while during her childhood.
From her first visit to this house, emotions will be born in her that until then she did not know existed, a nostalgia, a strange and mysterious feeling that its walls hide an untold story, a family secret that nestles in the attic and waits for years to manifest.
The tangle begins to unravel when Fotini gets her hands on a handwritten book that her grandmother had left for her young daughter, shortly before she died of cancer at the age of thirty-five. This book is the occasion for her to travel to Crete, in order to discover what really happened to her grandfather in the Occupation and to search for her grandmother's personal belongings that she had once hidden in a small house by a river.
And then, unacknowledged memories come to light and the silence is broken. Love and loss, betrayal and forgiveness swirl, separate and unite forever where worlds meet...
A touching story about loss, love and the redemptive power of forgiveness, in the most difficult years of Crete.
