"They screw up the boat and persist again"
Chania, November 4, 2017
A traditional wooden boat with the name "Saint Raphael" torn to pieces by the teeth of a bulldozer, after the issuance of a community directive that subsidized the withdrawal of the fishing license in exchange for the mandatory cutting of the boats.
Together with the ship, the minimal certainties of Theodoros, a historian of the generation of the 30s, who is unable to manage the "crime" of oblivion that he sees developing before his eyes, become pieces. How can a centuries-old tradition be mercilessly destroyed and condemned to oblivion?
The day after the "killing", Theodoros will succumb to nostalgia and remember the moments he lived in the neighborhood of the tarsanades, at the peak of the toil of the tireless pioneers, moments that seem to call him to spend with them in the frame of collective memory.
And then the historian will be confronted with the memories but also with Myrto, a young activist who suddenly appears in his life and in his imprint, to completely challenge him to fight a brave battle with her, in the ¨war¨ of her own generation. …
A novel, based on a true story, about the changes in the social environment and the fairy tale of life.
