Who is the dog man? One image could perhaps describe him best: bright shop window and a couple looking at the attractive goods for sale. To their left is a stray dog, as if it is asking them for something, but they don't see it, they have no eyes for it. On the far right, stretched out in some slats, speechless and cold, a homeless man. No one deals with him, he simply "dirties" the space with his presence. It is a living object without substance, without identity. A new kind of man, a new race. The dog man.
In the novel "the dog man" the hero is nothing more than a simple everyday person who loses his home for a few debts and suddenly finds himself on the street. How would each of us feel in a new unknown and unexpected reality? In what ways would he face the harshness of the road that threatens daily survival? And then, what are the internal changes that take place in the psyche of a person who until yesterday lived as a member of a social system and today found himself on the sidelines without an axis for him anywhere? What is his new identity? How does the system treat people like him? Struggling all alone with his fears and experiencing an agonizing mutation, the dog-man fights to stay alive marching non-stop in an existential search for his new exiled self, through many fluctuations, internal conflicts and emotions that gradually petrify.
*The novella "dog man" received the 1st prize in the Silver Page III competition of Moraitis publications.
