I speak Swahili, eat bukari and now also use Lubumbashi's two-wheeled transport. After the spectacular steps I have taken towards absolute Congoleseness, I am only three stages before it. The next things I will master will be making my hair into pigtails, sewing kikube and going to school carrying my books on my head. The passport plays absolutely no role. It is important to feel Congolese and I am overflowing with this feeling now!
A whim of fate dropped me in the heart of Africa, where I was faced with many challenges. From fun and cute, like the ones mentioned above, to painful and overwhelming, something I wasn't adequately prepared for. I took the bet and still do. If I walk around with textbooks on my head, it will be revealed to you... by my nurses. Whether I conquered the other challenges, the deep ones, I don't even know yet. But I will bet on it for the rest of my life! What I know for sure is that Africa conquered me!
If the only image you have of the Congo is that of colonialism, it's time to revise it! One of the most unknown sides of Africa comes alive before our eyes, through the travel diary of a Greek woman!
