Song: A Contemporary Approach

Η Mary Georgakarakou was born in Athens in 1968. In 1997 he went to the United States as a Fulbright scholar. In 2001, he obtained a Master of Music degree in solo music, with distinction, from the Longy School of Music, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 2015 she received the title of Doctor of Historical Musicology from Boston University. 

He has participated as a soloist in many concerts, mainly in the United States. He has been described as a "real find" (Boston Globe, 2000) and as "possessor of a mesmerizing voice" (Boston Herald, 2001, Early Music America, 2009). 

In 1997 he was honored with the Leos Laimos Award of the Academy of Athens. 

Her research interests include, among others, the influences of ancient Greek culture on 17th century English vocal music, the production of the voice in various historical periods, and the technical peculiarities of various subgroups of the population of Greece. She has presented her research findings at international conferences (Hawaii and Helsinki 2004, Warsaw 2006, Athens 2015). 

He taught for many years at Boston University, as well as at various institutions of the Orthodox Diocese of Boston and New England. He also taught monody and voice pedagogy in many masterclasses, organized mainly in Athens. 

She is a member of the United States and Canada Federation of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and has been an evaluator in competitions for young singers. In collaboration with the advertising company Leave Your Mark, he introduced, for the first time in Greece, a series of weekly webcasts with the theme of singing. 

She is married and lives with her family in Athens.
