Raymond was dangerous. At least that's how everyone around him treated him. He himself considered his life perfect as he lived to the extremes, without restrictions and prohibitions. But when he reached death's door one fateful night, his family took over. After the struggle of addiction he found himself exiled to a gloomy village, under the guardianship of his grandparents.
Trapped in Dunwich, he starts all over again. By changing his lifestyle, he is gradually led to change himself. Honora, a mysterious girl, invades his life and mind. For some reason he feels like he hates her, but he soon becomes obsessed as he tries to lift the veil of her secrecy, and discover the truth about her life. Unexplained events always precede her presence, and Raymond wanted to satisfy his curiosity at any cost. Approaching her, however, he becomes involved in an emotional war, which reverses the terms of their acquaintance and the motives of his search.
In this new route, legends and myths prove to be true, the fog is not always so innocent, and the phenomena constantly deceive the perception. Raymond got involved in an adventure that took him to a world he never imagined existed, and he didn't have to step beyond our own to face it. He learned the hard way that there are no limits to what you can do to save the one you love. And he discovered that the mirror of our soul is the one that makes us see life with another eye.

Rarely does one come across a book about which one has only heard positive things. The universal acceptance that "Nightmares" had among the reading public led me to the decision to immerse myself in the world of Artemis Veloudou-Apokotou. Of course I had my doubts about whether I would like it. I knew that it is a book that belongs to fantasy literature and the truth is, that it is not exactly the literary genre that I prefer.
The story begins with Raymond on the plane as he moves to Dunwich, where he will spend some time at his grandparents' house. The reason for this move, apart from - apparently - his parents' desire to get rid of him, is his addiction to substances and alcohol. In Dunwich, Raymond is forced to work in the family business, in the company of the irritating and ugly Honora. As he feels increasingly bogged down, strange events force him to discover another reality. What secrets does Honora hide and what does the future hold for them?
I do not intend to reveal more about the case. And what I said is a lot. But what I want to refer to, the first thing the reader notices when reading this particular book, is how well written it is. The author masterfully creates a wonderful world and gives it life, thanks to her great talent. With a tight plot and well-crafted heroes, Ms. Veloudou-Apokotou composes a story about facts and the unexpected. Because "Nightmares" is not a simple book of fantastic literature. It is an extremely well-crafted literary text, which relies on the social representations of its heroes to tell us about the unexpected, the unknown, about ourselves. Raymond built his character and went about his life based on what he knew. However, there comes a time in our lives when everything we know is turned upside down and Raymond is called upon to face a different reality.
In my personal opinion, "Nightmares" is a unique sample of psychosocial situations, since the author manages to highlight the complexity of the human psyche, but mainly the way man functions in society, any society, and how he himself gives meaning to identities that they impose on him. A satisfying book, with rich images, staccato, intense narration and charismatic language.
Reading this particular book made me understand, once again, the reasons why I don't often read fantasy books. I don't believe in magic, in other worlds, in anything I can't see and touch myself. Few literary texts have convinced me otherwise, all of them classics and masterpieces. Nightmares is such a book. Because beyond the techniques and rhymes, beyond even the story or the protagonists of a text, there is the emotion. All art forms aim for this and if a book can change a person, then Nightmares has achieved it. Why, if only for a moment, I wondered. Even for a little while, I believed in magic, which I need so much in my life.

A wonderful book, the beginning of a story that captivates you, captivates you, chills you and makes you anxious as you turn the page! Excellent.

I'm always excited by fantasy books. They have become one of my favorite types of reading. As I laid eyes on this trilogy and having heard great things from like-minded people I trust, I knew I was going to read a story that would shock and enchant me. Really lately Pigi Publications has become my favorite publisher as everything I've read has blown me away!
Raymond Knight is a young man who you can say has everything. Money, freedom and friends. But what he lacks is the love of his family. His mother is sensitive and delicate, cannot stand emotions and does not express her feelings. His father on the other hand is a cruel man with no feelings. These lead him to bad decisions and bad addictions. Drink and cocaine become his companions and lead him to destruction. A near fatal car accident, the threat of prison and a phone call send him from California to Dunwich, England to his father's parents under surveillance and strict prohibitions. At the age of twenty-one, he is forced to undergo as many prohibitions as he did not have even in his adolescence.
But all this brings him on the path of Honora Grey. A girl who was born and raised there, lives with her father and works at his grandparents' inn. Their first meeting is episodic!! Ray faces a very ugly girl and the word freak escapes him. They try as much as they can to avoid each other but their common work brings them into daily contact. Ray changes his mind about her, begins to see her differently and soon falls in love with her. Honora, however, continues to avoid him and refuses his love. He is stubborn and continues to claim her! But something strange is happening to her. Something hovers in the air and threatens them.
When Honora finally admits her feelings to Ray, she is forced to reveal to him things about herself that leave him speechless but determined to do anything to help and save her. Who exactly is Honora? What is happening in Dunwich and what threatens them? How at risk are they and who can help them?
What I really liked is the change in Ray that finally helped his parents express to him everything they feel about him. How deluded can someone be if they misinterpret what they see? How many wrong conclusions can he draw? What can he do for the one he loves? How far can he go to save himself?
A book whose ending left me speechless. I just didn't expect this to happen. It blew me away beyond belief and made me urgently want to start the next one. My anxiety hit red. A story so magical and so special that I was incredibly intrigued and captivated. I enjoyed it and recommend it…
