The Greek short stories of the Generation of 1880 are the roots of our literary education. The great writers, Papadiamantis, Palamas, Karkavitsas and others, provide the narrative impetus of the Greek reality in the urban landscape and rural life. With realistic images, real characters and lively dialogues, they establish our oldest written tradition, move the reading public and lay the foundation on which later literary creation is built.
The short stories are distinguished by their timeless theme, dynamic speech, masterful plot, abundance of sociological and psychographic references, folkloric elements and verbal idioms, which give the stamp of human relationships and the measure of evolution in place and time.
We anthologize Easter short stories, transcribed into the modern Greek language, with the necessary commentary, with respect for the style of the primary material, as a communication channel for younger readers with our literary heritage and the approach of valuable prose, which, even in the era of easy-to-digest "globalized" speech , suggest an ideological orientation.
However, we also appeal to readers of mature age, with a nostalgic, and not only, mood.
In addition, with the accompanying digital disc, the Anthology contributes to removing the exclusion of people who are unable to access the printed form.
Dear readers, happy reading and listening.
