Haiku (“funny verse”) is a Japanese poetic form. It traditionally consists of three groups of five, seven, five syllables, which are placed in three lines for emphasis or in one, separated by spaces. With a total of seventeen syllables, the haiku is the shortest form of poetry in the world. It describes a picture of nature and gives information about the time of year through specific words. There are also haiku poets who follow a freer form.
