The subject of the book is women's make-up. The purpose of makeup is to improve facial features. It is the highlighting of the beautiful features and the concealment of any imperfections. In other words, it is the creation of beauty, which, according to the American philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1884), is art. Therefore, the purpose of the art of make-up is to create an illusion. After all, etymologically the word "makeup" comes from the French verb maquiller (to camouflage, to change, to cover up).
Given that make-up has its own history, a historical review through the centuries is first made. Since ancient times, man used to paint and decorate his face and body not only for cosmetic reasons, but also for social and religious reasons, as, many times, makeup even served as a means of expression. Starting from antiquity and reaching the modern era, we take a journey through time and the world of make-up, observing the different standards of beauty imposed by each era.
Then, the basic principles of make-up are covered, such as chroma, shading and lighting, personology, tools and materials for a complete make-up, as well as a range of professional make-up techniques, ending with body and face painting (face and body painting), the description of the most basic transformations and special effects.
