Οi Greeks through the eyes of the Arabs (rendition of the classical Arabic work entitled "The meadows of gold and the mines of precious stones") is the masterpiece of the learned Iraqi historian and geographer Al Masudi, who is also known as "the Herodotus of the Arabs". The passages about the Greeks are collected and translated for the first time into Greek directly from the Arabic language. In this book Masudi still gives us information about ancient cultures, about nations and societies that he recorded on his travels. He cites information he collected in his time about the Greek kings and M. Alexander with his wars in India, the Ptolemies, the kings of Constantinople, the Emperors of Byzantium after the advent of Islam, the history of Alexandria and its lighthouse. It is considered one of the greatest classics of Arabic literature, a kind of world historical encyclopedia.
