The History of Sports Media in Greece and in the World

Ο Yannis Mamouzelos was born in 1949 in Athens. He studied Law & Political Sciences at the University of Athens, became a lawyer (1975), but preferred journalism, to which he devoted himself from 1968 ("Light of Sports" & "Evening") until 2011. He worked in more than 15 sports & political newspapers, magazines, television and radio.

The longest-lived station was ERT television (1976-2011), where for years it presented "Sports Sunday", sports news & broadcasts, represented the organization in Sports Group & Broadcasters meetings of the EBU, etc.

His attendance record at the most important sporting events is impressive, including: 13 Olympic Games (7 summer & 6 winter), 4 World Cups, 20 World and 14 European Athletics Championships, Euro 2004, 14 Roland Garros & Wimbledon, 6 Mediterranean , 2 Universities and numerous important competitions in Greece and abroad.

He inspired the title of the pioneering sports newspaper Sportime, where he was editor-in-chief, columnist and Publishing Consultant (1994-2003).

He was a Press Services officer for major international events, such as the Mediterranean '91, the World Athletics '97, the O.A. 2004 etc.

He taught sports journalism in the undergraduate department of the School of Media of Pantheon University, in private or public schools, he was a speaker at national and international conferences, seminars, etc.

He was the Special Secretary of PSAT and a member of the administrations of SEGAS, Panhellenic General Assembly, ASE Doukas. He has been honored by the Botsi Journalism Foundation, the "Apollo Awards" institution, Federations, sports associations, OTAs, etc.

He was a PGS athletics athlete, with medals in Panhellenic games for children and teenagers.

His wife the pr. Notary/Mortgagor Ac. Mamouzelou-Spiliakopoulou. They have a son (graduated in chemical engineering at NTUA) and a daughter (graduated in Philology at the National Technical University of Athens).
