Grigoris Beis, young and handsome, pioneering entrepreneur with intense social and cultural activity, man with a fiancee and lover, son of a member of parliament and a former minister, is found dead in the bed of a waterfall somewhere in Northern Greece. His sister Antigone, a charming architect from the countryside, commissions Petros Riveris, a private detective, to find out what happened to her younger brother.
Petros Riveris has just settled in the city after long wanderings in Europe and during his complex investigations he is faced with a series of riddles: Why did Grigoris Beys create the Green Sea Network, a network of businesses and cultural organizations? What were the motivations of his partners when they decided to support his strategy and join the Green Sea Network? Why did a group of young scientists react to Grigoris Bey's plans by trying something different? Investigating the case brings Petros Riveris face to face with well-hidden secrets in the skin of the city, making him realize that few things are as they seem.
The Children of Athena is a contemporary noir novel that tries to capture at first hand the complex process of assimilation of young people and the search for their identity in a world with old structures. At the same time, it is an indirect comment on the Greek economic crisis through the eyes of the new generation.
