Andreas Onoufriou was born in Famagusta, Cyprus, graduated from the Commercial High School and worked at the Famagusta Water Board. He has been writing prose since the first grades of Primary School and his short stories have been published, from time to time, in newspapers and magazines in Cyprus, Greece and abroad. They were also broadcast by radio stations in Cyprus and Greece.
He was a founding member and G.G. of the Pan-Cypriot Artistic and Literary Youth Club from its foundation until its dissolution by the Turkish invasion of 1974. Since 1976 he has been a member of the Society of Greek Writers. In 1975, his novel "The Hours of Destruction" was published with the funding of friends from the IOLKOS Publishing House, which sold out in two months and was considered a best seller. In the state awards of Cyprus, that year, he receives praise.
His short stories were translated and anthologized in related publications, in English, French, German, Russian, Hungarian, Chinese and Albanian. His texts were anthologized in the "Reading Anthology" for the Primary Schools of Cyprus, in the "School Subject" by D. Giakou, in the "Great Encyclopedia of Modern Greek Literature" by Haris Patsis and many others.
His short story "As the letters speak" was made into a short film by Evangelos Hatzikyriakos and was broadcast on RIK TV and in various international festivals.
Since 1967, he has been awarded in relevant competitions in Cyprus and abroad several times, among them, by the Hellenic Spiritual Club of Cyprus, the Union of Young Greek Writers, the Epirotiki Hestia, the Thessaloniki-Cyprus Friendship Association, etc. In 1998 he was honored for his offer from the Spiritual Olympiad of Athens and in 2006 from the Municipality of Famagusta. In October 2018, he was also honored by the Municipality of Velos Vohas. In 2015 he won the "Markos Augeris" award for his novel "The Mantra".
He was for years a partner in the First Program of the Cyprus Radio Foundation. He is married to Dina Psarrou from Derveni, Corinthia and has been a refugee in his own homeland since 1974.
