An interesting wandering the work at hand in the linguistic richness of the idiom of Mirali (Golden Dawn later) of Boios and Anaselitsa more broadly.

Our guide and traveler is the late teacher Nikolaos Bazakas, who, in addition to what he knew and experienced while living and growing up in that society, recorded older people who reached the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. He listened to tseligades, aunts, housewives, landlords, farmers and baczevans, popular instrumentalists and his fellow villagers, craftsmen and tinkerers.

In this book, the few remaining native speakers of the idiom will remember, complete, and discover words and phrases from their childhood. Those who follow will find through the pages, a nostalgic thread of connection with the words of the grandparents, with all that has passed and now seems distant.

Finally, this Vocabulary will be a well-founded basis for those who want to study linguistically, folklore and socially the region.

Author Biography

Nikolaos Bazakas was born in Chrysavgi (Mirali) Voiou in 1936. Son of the stone mason Georgios Bazakas, originally from Agios Kosmas (Tsiraki) Grevena and Despina Tsamos from Dasyllio (Mageri). He had three other siblings, Athanasios who perished in the civil war, Stavroula and Artemisia. He spent his childhood years in Chrysavgi and attended the Primary School of the Village, with Andreas Papazacharias as his teacher. He finished the sixth grade of Primary School in Korifi (Borsia) where all the residents of the neighboring villages had gathered in the last years of the civil war.

Boarder and student, he studied at the historic six-grade Tsotyli High School. After completing his high school studies and exams, he enrolled at the Pedagogical Academy of Thessaloniki. With his Teacher's degree and after fulfilling his military obligations, he was first appointed to the village of Prionia (Bozovo) in Grevena. This was followed by transfers to Leipsi in Grevena, to Makrygialos in Pieria, to Greek schools in Germany, as a seconded teacher for the teaching of the Greek Language, and to Thessaloniki from where he retired with the rank of Director. With actions and initiatives that he developed, apart from his hand gesture, he left a remarkable social and cultural work.
