In the pages of this book, the reader will explore the life and achievements of the Didymoteichi Saint and Emperor John III Duke Vatatzis. At the same time, he will have the opportunity to learn about important persons and events of the Roman Empire during the first half of the 13th century, which are directly related to Vatatzis. Also, special mention is made in the first chapter of the book, to the birthplace of our hero, Didymoteicho, and its historical course from the Roman period to the Ottoman conquest.
The author's expectation is that the important work of Didymoteichite Agios Vasileos will be recognized and become in the consciousness of all readers, as one of the most important personalities of the Byzantine-Roman period, but also of the entire history of the Greek nation. Very aptly, after all, the great Greek Byzantine scholar Konstantinos Amados (1874-1960) wrote that: "Ioannis Vatatzis was praised both in life and after death as perhaps no other emperor of Byzantium"!
